Selib & Dr Chriz - Assassin's Creep

Stay your blade from the flesh of an innocent
Hide in plain sight
Never compromise the Brotherhood
- Assassin's Creep

Opening Thoughts:I quite like the assassin's creed series, I like putting the time and effort into sneaking up on a target and effortlessly slitting their throat without them noticing, this made the section when you kill the doctor in the first assassin's creed my favourite part of the series. But when it came down to the jumping sectios I never had any complaints, I mean the jumping an ledge grabbing mechanics in the game were tight and fluid enough that you could learn how to judge differences, but they never really captured and held my interest either. So when I saw an assisn's creed style map on here I was intrigued, how would it try and emulate the game? Well lets take a peek.

Visual:The design of this map is, for want of a better word, lovely. The building design and creation gives that real Assassin's Creed feeling of old style buildings that you can clamber all over, and the text pack we are give makes that Asscreed feel even more potent. However there are certain visual restrications the map is unable to work around, basicallt the feel of all the puzzles start to feel very similar. In Asscreed, each town we went through was designed to be different whch allowed the design team to make their areas all in one style, but still give a feel of variety. Here the map goes for that similar look but because we only have one town it all begins to blur together by your third tower climbing section. Let me end by restating that the town does look georgeous, but I think we just spend too long there, making it feel samey by the time we depart.

Challenge:I want to save my deonstruction of what the puzzles are in this map for the puzzle section, so for here let me just say that what they do bring across from the games feels just as challanging as the games versions and will really take AssCreed fans into that myasmic moment that you feel when just running through and enjoying the game, but at times will also bring across the same frustrated feeling one gets when the feeling was broken.

Length:This games length is more than reasonable and much like the games it pays homage to it features a metric ton of climbing, but once again the story elements and objectives of the actual game worked to break up these sections, here it just feels like the climbing is just padding between objectives. I undertsand the issue of reducing the climbing, but you need more inbetween to hook the player in and make them intrigued in the climbing sections.

Puzzle Variety:So here it is, how does this game see to ape AssCreed? Purley through it's climbing... And I guess there wasn't many other choices. Yes on first thought AssCreed probably looked like the best choice for a minecraft 'port' (for lack of a better word) with it's climbing and dungeon elements (well dungeon elements since AC2). But the rest of the game just does not translate to Minecraft, there is no place for the chase dungeons from AC2, the recruit the Assassin sections from AC:B or even the games key element, the assassinations themselves. Without these elements this doesn't feel like Assassin's Creed, it just feels like a generic parkour game with only 2 types of puzzle (either the jump around a dungeon or jump up the tower mission). The best suggestion I can give is either exapand the scope of the map and give the players more sections to visit, or make a couple of true puzzle dungeons that the player can use their grey matter in.

Things that Need Improvement:
- Puzzle Variety
- Design or Area variety

Things that need No-Improvement:- Basic Visual Design
- Challenge

Final Thoughts:As I said I understand why Assassin's Creed seemed like a good property to make in Minecraft, it's probably the same reason I expect to find at least 20 maps if I loo up prince of persia in the forum search, but you have to realise the limitations of using this kind of program to remake something like that, because since you'll really only be able to do the pakour sections which means you will have nothing to break up the game. It is still fun to play, but in the end the whole thing runs together a bit and you may lose your momentum to see it to the end.
