Mnopjh, penguin9281 & flandrechan1000 - The Griefer

With a name as perfect as my own, lets look at The Griefer



Opening Thoughts:I hate Silverfish... those little buggers make digging a bigger pain in the ass than any other mob imaginable and If I ca find a sure fire way to kill them than I would go pied piper of Hamlin on them as I leas a hundred of them to their death. But you know what I dislike even more? Maps who fail to deal with these natural issues and not even have that as their biggest issue. With that seething opening lets dive right in.

Visuals:It's an adventure map with puzzle elements so as usual I feel as thought I sould be kind to it, so I'm not marking it down for colours... But that does not excuse poor design. The first house in the game is not only missing a roof, but the bedroom is flooded because the creator obviously hasn't bothered to go over and double check their work. It is pathetic, this is the first structure you come across and should have easily been the best. But no as the only house currently in the game world it is a pathetic addition to a poor map. The later puzzle elements doo a fir enough job of offering some variety, but again design failures bring this thing down with an elevaor that doesn't work and a minecart track that goes about 40 blocks length ad then stops.

Challenge:The challenge is next to othing, in the normal areas the only time you'll feel threeatened is when every single silverfish and his firends decide to make you into fast food and chase you bac through the tunnels. Otherwise the jumping challengeds are simple, the maze (while being the most creative aspect of the game) is easy, and the movement between objectives is a joke.

Length:The map is no finished but for what I have before me the length is abismal. This is not counting the areas leading up to the puzzles because those will rely on how well you can follow torches so won't be that bad. But using such spacial padding as the minecart and digging holes in walls to moe on is pointless and unforgivable, why can't these be interesting or at least some smarter puzzle to do so that we aren't boered or just being dragged on.

Story:What can I say about the story? It's set up nicely here but the map is unfinished so I can't give you much advice in this regard. All I want to know i this... why does the town escape route have deathtraps, an elevator and a minecrate ride in it? From a story perspective these things are out of place. However despite this being an adventure map I won't grade you on the story but sufice to say it is unoriginal, the notes are thus for poorly written (plz, really?) and it will need some twisting and turning to not bore your audience as seen it all before.

Puzzle Vairety:I like the maze puzzle mixing in pistons that works really well. But why does the majority of your puzzle setion comprise of mostly unchallenging jumping puzzles? it is really uncreative and lets down the idea that this is an ESCAPE ROUTE, some arrow/pressure pads puzzles would mae sens, the maze makes sense the idea is to lose your persusers not lose youself in a generally useless jumping section. I would HIGHLY recomend going back and redesigning how your puzzles will work because as they stand they make little sense and are of no real challenge.

Things That Need Improvment:- The Puzzle Variety
- House design
- The dig through the stone puzzle because it releases silverfish, that isn't hard that is just impossible because they come out of all sorts of blocks almost certainly killing you.
- in the first house there is a hole in the bedroom ceiling that lets water in.
- the walking sections along the torch paths are boring and long, put in something for us to look at otherwise you will lose your audience.
- The Minecart Ride

Things That Need No-Improvment:- The Piston maze.

Final Thoughts:I hve never played a map that has made me so annoyed and that is a terrible thing for a game that is supposed to be fun. This thing needs a massive overhaul and I would recommend that it is either shut down for a while and redone or that you start again from scratch with it.
