Can you spend a night in an Infected Hotel
Opening Thoughts:When I was first told that Minecraft was alot like plaing with lego, I assumed that going onto forums would be full of films/books/monuments being remade, but as you may have noticed by hanging out in this map area most people seem to be a bit more creative than that. But when we do remake/rebbot/do our own take on a pre-existing thing how will it turn out?
Visual:Having not seen the original Spanish film [Rec] or the American version Quarentine, I couldn't tell you how faithful this map is, but its visuals work really well at invoking a sense dread and fear which amps up the tension of being attacked by zombies. Each of the rooms have different colours to make them distinct, however the dreary nature makes these moments of colour superfluous. If I could offer one suggestion it would be to change the use of clay to plans, because since this is supposed to be a fortified hotel it is more believable that there are wooden planks cordoning off areas rather than random clay everywhere.

Challenge:Can there be a map that is too hard but not impossible? I think there is because this map is unforgivable even on normal difficulty. If you take the time when you start and read all the notes, once you climb out of the basement to see a zombie bearing don on you, he kills you in 3 hits while he takes around 15... And the amount of darkness and spawners means that you will be constatly swarmed by hundreds of the undead shamblers. For some this may be the perfect challenge, but personally it was just too much.

Length:With the level of zombie buggery you are going to have to deal with in this map it becomes a long journey to get through. And when you are reloading for the fourth time (I'll get back to this) you'll start to wish you were playing this on a console just so you could break the controller ovre your knee. but after a few attempts you'll start to work out how to get through it.

Design:
Look there really isn't enough information story wise to comment on the story and there are no puzzles to talk about, so instead I want to talk design. The design of this map is a bit of a mess, the creator tries to place mob spawners in various location to just hinder us, but the issue with the majority of them being upstairs is that once we head up we are destined to run into a mass of them and with only a tone sword we have no chance. The other element of design I want to discuss is death, because when you die in this game you are transported to a random obsidian box and your game is over. Yes, this game with its agressive difficulty is a one life game, so if you want another shot you have to go ack to your save folder and reboot the whole game again. it is a serious pain in the ass and unnecessary, i you are afriad we are going to have lost the cobble stone we need for buttons then there needs to be a back-up system not this poor design of a reboot.
Things That Need Improvement:- Death
- Difficulty
Things That Need No-Improvement:- Hotel Design
Final Thoughts:This map could be fun if you enjoy maps with increddily aggressive difficulty and an overwhelming hord of zombies. However if you prefer puzzles or story or having your limbs in the right place then this map probably won't be your cup of tea, wait for a slightly easier version.
